SCALEXIO Processing Unit

Product lines for high core performance and high parallel performance

SCALEXIO Processing Units are ideal for high-performance applications with complex models with a large amount of I/O. The unit can be installed in a SCALEXIO rack or used on a desk.

The SCALEXIO Processing Units are based on an industrial PC with an Intel® XEON® processor, a real-time operating system, and a PCIe plug-on card developed by dSPACE for communication with the I/O and with other real-time processors. A Processing Unit can be equipped with four or eight IOCNET ports to interface I/O or other processing hardware. You can use IOCNET connectors to connect a DS100x-based system with other SCALEXIO Processing Units via Gigalink. One of the available processor cores is reserved for service jobs, the others are used for computing real-time models.

The SCALEXIO Processing Unit with a XEON E3-1275v6 processor is ideally suited for all applications that require a strong computation performance of each individual core. Therefore, it is the main Processing Unit for hardware-in-the-loop testing systems that covers all applications, such as vehicle dynamics or electric drive simulations. 

Key Benefits

The Processing Unit with a XEON E3 processor is tailored for processing sophisticated and complex models with a large amount of I/O. The highest core performance enables the handling of the large data volumes in modern bus communications, such as Ethernet or FlexRay. Using a core for services, such as host communication, the observing variables minimize the effect on the real-time performance. Thus, high data transfer rates between the real-time system and the host PC can be achieved.

The SCALEXIO Processing Unit with a XEON E5-2640v3 processor provides eight cores and is especially geared towards customers who often have to compute very large simulation models in parallel, for example, for vehicle dynamics simulation with detailed chassis and tire models. This enables engineers to use high-fidelity, physically realistic models, increases model accuracy, and makes HIL simulations more realistic.

The Processing Unit with a XEON E5 processor is ideal for the parallel execution of complex and computationally intensive simulation models. The use of a core for services, such as host communication, minimizes the effect on the real-time performance while observing variables, i.e., high data transfer rates between the real-time system and the host PC can be achieved. It provides a high-performance host interface to enable observation of a large number of signals.

The Processing Unit can be connected to SCALEXIO LabBox via IOCNET. Together, they provide a convenient system for function developers and function testers. The SCALEXIO Processing Unit is available as a desktop and a rack-mount version of. Both versions provide the same technical features. The only difference is that the desktop version features rubber pads and the rack-mount version offers rack brackets.
