Trainings for Young Race Engineers

dSPACE trains the developers of Formula Student race cars

Paderborn, 15. December 2015:

In November, dSPACE was once again the destination of many Formula Student developers. All in all, 27 university racing enthusiasts from four countries visited dSPACE GmbH in Paderborn and took part in two-day trainings to become familiar with dSPACE’s various hardware and software tools. dSPACE provides select racing teams with development tools and helps the future race engineers develop and test the controls for their race cars more efficiently.

The training courses were held by experienced dSPACE employees and included expert talks and presentations on topics such as wheel suspension design and vehicle dynamics optimization. Several workshops gave the students hands-on experience in using the dSPACE experiment and visualization software ControlDesk® Next Generation. This software lets the students capture the measurement data from their race cars and provides a clear overview for analysis. A separate workshop explained dSPACE’s prototyping system, MicroAutoBox, in detail. By using ControlDesk Next Generation together with MicroAutoBox, the students can develop the electronic control systems of their conventional or electric race cars more efficiently and hone them for success.

Since 2007, dSPACE has supported select Formula Student teams with development tools and technical know-how. In 2015, 32 academic racing teams benefited from this cooperation, which traditionally includes extensive training sessions. By getting involved in Formula Student, dSPACE is already thinking about tomorrow's need for skilled workers, helping young researchers to get their ideas on the road early on.

About Formula Student

Formula Student is an engineering design competition in which international teams of students plan and build their own race car to compete on internationally known race tracks. But building a fast formula race car is not the only goal of this competition. Design, financial planning and sales arguments also contribute to the success of the teams, which are evaluated by a jury of experts.
