Kaiserslautern Racing Team (KaRaT)

The Formula Student team of the University of Kaiserslautern and the Hochschule Kaiserslautern - University of Applied Sciences, the Kaiserslautern Racing Team (KaRaT for short) was founded in 2007. Since the switch from combustion engines to electric drives in 2012, the team has been participating in Formula Student Electric. Currently, approximately 50 students from all departments dedicate themselves to designing and building the vehicle.

The KaRaT team has prepared for the coming seasons with numerous new developments and improvements and is planning to compete at events in Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands with the team’s racing vehicle e17.

With dSPACE MicroAutoBox II, the team is setting up a test bench for low-voltage electronics with a focus on the main ECU. For this, the team uses MATLAB®/Simulink® to create and simulate the complete periphery. The team intends to develop an automated test bench that can test for full functionality in just a few seconds. Moreover, the test bench is to be extended for the complete vehicle electronics.
