The aviation industry requires that safety-critical software is assessed according to rigorous safety and development guidelines before it might be used on commercial airliners. DO-178C and its supplements are such guidelines used by certification authorities as well as by companies developing software-based airborne equipment.
The civil avionics industry increasingly utilizes model-based development and verification technologies, including automated code generation, to develop airborne software to realize a variety of benefits associated with this software development paradigm. In this context the question arises on how to develop and verify airborne software in a model-based fashion such that the certification guidelines are satisfied.
This document addresses the development and verification of airborne software when using model-based development and verification with TargetLink in the software life cycle. It is based on the regulatory guideline DO-178C and its DO-331 supplement that provides guidance for using model-based development and verification.
