What is ASM Brake Hydraulics?

ASM Brake Hydraulics is a real-time simulation model from the dSPACE Automotive Simulation Models (ASM) suite that represents a complete hydraulic braking system with full support for electronic stability programs (ESP). Built on open MATLAB/Simulink structures, the model includes detailed representations of key components such as the master brake cylinder, dual brake circuits, wheel brake cylinders, and pressure control valves, enabling realistic calculation of hydraulic pressures and fluid flows within the system. The model captures the dynamic behavior of modern braking systems by simulating controllable valve characteristics and pressure-dependent flow effects, providing a high level of physical fidelity suitable for advanced control system development.  Due to its compliance with safety standards such as ISO 26262 and its seamless integration into model-based development workflows, ASM Brake Hydraulics serves as a key component for efficient and reliable development of modern automotive braking systems.

Typical Application Areas

  • HIL testing of electronic control units (ECUs) to validate brake ECUs virtually.
  • Development and calibration of brake control functions: simulation of hydraulic brake circuits to support the design and tuning of control algorithms for ABS or ESP.
  • System-level simulation of vehicle dynamics: integration into other ASM products to analyze the influence of brake hydraulics on overall vehicle behavior.
  • Fault simulation and diagnostics development: modeling of hydraulic faults such as leaks, valve malfunctions, or pressure losses to develop and validate diagnostic functions.
