CLAAS Selbstfahrende Erntemaschinen GmbH: Test Process with Centralized Test Management

Published: February 09, 2017

At the 8th dSPACE User Conference (November 15-16, 2016) in Munich, CLAAS Selbstfahrende Erntemaschinen GmbH presented the company’s test process and talked about the introduction of SYNECT as a central test management tool.

The most important factors for CLAAS are the availability of data of the many test projects across all company locations, and the support for distributed development.

In the data management and collaboration software SYNECT, CLAAS found a solution for all phases of the test process and has successfully used the software since 2014. CLAAS has one central database for all German locations and thus for all test projects of the many CLAAS vehicle types (e.g, tractors, telescopic handlers, and square balers). All relevant test data, such as requirements, tests, test results, and parameters as well as the dependencies between these data items are handled in SYNECT. By interconnecting the data, CLAAS achieved its goal of complete traceability from the requirements to the test cases to the test results.

For the requirements-based test process established at CLAAS, the existing requirements are entered into SYNECT where they are directly linked to the test cases. Currently, approximately 20,000 test cases are managed. With the data management tool, parameterizing these test cases, which is necessary for test execution, can be done fully automatically.

At CLAAS, test execution is performed with various hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and test automation systems. Thanks to SYNECT’s open application programming interface (API), the diverse test landscape at CLAAS was easy to connect to the test management. There are links to dSPACE AutomationDesk, Vector vTESTstudio, ECU-TEST by TraceTronic, and internal CLAAS test tools. The test execution is started directly from within SYNECT and is performed on the available platforms, such as dSPACE SCALEXIO and Vector VT System, or in the actual vehicle.

The test results are automatically and permanently stored in the test management system and are thus centrally available for a wide variety of analyses. CLAAS uses SYNECT’s capabilities for evaluating the test results, automatically analyzing requirement coverage, and reporting.
