To pave the way for handling the complex and safety-relevant in-vehicle data communications of the future, the BMW Group is currently preparing to use FlexRay. The accompanying development process plays a decisive part in the quality, stability, and reliability of such systems. Hardware-in-the-loop simulators and test benches are indispensable components and an integral part of the validation process. The paper describes the technology used by the BMW Group in greater detail, mainly with regard to communication networks using FlexRay.
