Video – Spotlight: Over-the-air testing – how can real-world signals be emulated?

When it comes to vehicle safety with self-driving cars, environmental sensors – like cameras and radar sensors, who help the car perceive it’s environment – play an increasingly crucial role. While development processes keep being improved by virtualization technology, the final hardware has still to be validated on it’s own.

But how do you test a radar sensor over the air, and simulate a real radar signal from very short distances up to a distance of a few hundred meters in a lab situation? This is what you can accomplish with the new dSPACE automotive radar test system – in short: DARTS.
