Space Team Aachen e. V., a dynamic student initiative at RWTH Aachen University and Aachen University of Applied Sciences, brings together more than 190 students with the goal of actively pushing the boundaries of space exploration. With Hopper – Europe’s largest rocket hopper – the team is developing reusable rocket technology. dSPACE hardware-in-the-loop testing enables realistic validation of the avionics and accelerates development cycles.
About the team
The team focuses on rocket technology and space systems. This vibrant community is passionately committed to pushing the boundaries of rocket development and space technology. One of its ongoing projects is Hopper, a reusable rocket designed for low-altitude vertical take-off and landing, aimed at advancing rapid reusability in Europe.
About Hopper
Hopper is a pressure-fed rocket hopper that serves as a development platform for reusable rocket technology, planetary landers, and spacecraft systems. Its structure consists of multiple carbon-fiber-overwrapped pressure vessels capable of withstanding pressures of up to 300 bar. The rocket is powered by a liquid propellant rocket engine and steered by a thrust vector control system.
