The objective of virtualisation is to enhance software quality by integrating and testing the ECU software early on, before the final target hardware is available, with the aid of a „virtual ECU“ (V-ECU). An additional goal is to create a representation of a vehicle E/E system even before the ECU hardware becomes available, by combining virtual and real ECUs. This will make it possible to assess the system functions and their performance at an earlier stage than is the case today. Daimler uses dSPACE tools to realise this in a pilot application.
