The 29th edition of European Microwave Week (EuMW 2026) will take place in London, continuing the annual series of highly successful microwave events that began in 1998. EuMW 2026 will comprise three concurrent conferences:

Effectiveness Testing of ADAS in the PTI

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) represent a central pillar of technological innovation in the automotive industry. It is essential to ensure their functional safety over the entire life cycle of a vehicle. This requirement is particularly relevant in the context of legal regulations. For example, due to Regulation (EU) 2019/2144, starting in July 2024, all newly registered vehicles (regardless of model type) must be equipped with an automatic emergency braking system.  At present, driver assistance systems in the PTI are not subjected to regular inspections or functional tests like the legally mandated emergency braking system. On the one hand, there are no legal requirements, and on the other hand, simple and cost-effective testing methods and equipment are not yet available. In this presentation, the options discussed in the market for such test methods and the functional principles of the associated test equipment will be discussed. Special emphasis will be placed on a new vehicle-in-the-loop (VIL) solution for effective testing. The innovative and cost-effective test bench is based on a steering technology. A closed control loop for controlling the test system and simulating the environment reproduces defined scenarios to which the driver assistance systems react. The vehicle sensors are stimulated over the air (OTA). New technical solutions are used for this, which allow the special requirements of the PTI test to be met.
