Replacing CmDongles Rev. 2-xxxx

Introduction

All CmDongles1 Rev. 2-xxxx shipped between November 2014 (dSPACE Release 2014-B) and October 2015 have to be replaced by Rev. 3-xxxx dongles. To replace the CmDongles, you need to migrate the license information (stored on the CmDongle Rev. 2-xxxx). The shipped new CmDongle Rev. 3-xxxx does not contain any license information. For migration, dSPACE provides the dSPACE Dongle Migration tool, which you have to download from this website.

The dongle migration tool is self-contained to make it independent of required Microsoft re-distributables like .NET being already installed. Installation of the tool might take about two to thirty minutes depending on which libraries are already available on your PC. You might also be prompted to reboot the PC before the installation is completed. Do so and then restart the setup until Installation Manager and Dongle Migration tool are installed successfully.

Q&A

A list of typical questions about the dongle migration process and our answers to them.

  1. Q: The Installation of the Dongle Migration Tool is blocked with the error message: "Unsupported operating system."

    A: The first version of the Dongle Migration Tool supported only Windows 7 64-bit. We recently updated the tool on our website to a version which supports Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit. Please download and use the recent version (09.03.2017) from this website.
     
  2. Q: Is it required to have other dSPACE software or hardware installed on the PC intended for dongle migration?

    A: No, only the Dongle Migration Tool has to be installed on the PC.
     
  3. Q:  I cannot connect to the dSPACE server. Dongle migration is not possible. What can be the reason?

    A: The dSPACE Dongle Migration Tool uses the HTTPS protocol, port 443, and Windows default proxy settings to communicate with the dSPACE server. Local firewalls and IT appliances must be configured accordingly to grant the dSPACE Dongle Migration tool Internet access.
     
  4. Q: Dongle migration is not possible. I receive an error like "Proxy authentification required".

    A: Your company uses a proxy server which requires a speific authentification. Please contact your IT department.
     
  5. Q: I received the dongle(s) for migration. How can I get the infomation which old CMDongle(s) (Rev. 2-xxx) have to be migrated? 

    A:  The package which contains the new CMDongle(s) should contain as well a letter which lists the dongles to be migrated.  
     
  6. Q: The CmDongle is not recognized by the migration tool, it seems to be defective. Is there another way to migrate?

    A: In case of a defective dongle we have to replace the dongle. Please get in contact with dSPACE technical support (support@dspace.de)
     
  7. Q: Besides the CMDongle(s) Rev2-xxx I have some green WIBUkey dongles available. How to migrate these dongles?

    A:  Green WIBUkey dongles cannot be migrated. The migration applies only to CMDongles (Rev 2-xxx).
     
  8. Q: Do I need new licenses after the dongle migration?

    A: During the migration process the license number of the old (Rev. 2-xxx) CMDongle dongle is transferred to the new (Rev. 3-xxx) CMDongle. The old (Rev. 2-xxx) CMDongle dongle can be trashed. No license update is required.
