Hydrogen Fuel Cells
Fuel cells are becoming increasingly important for vehicle propulsion and energy storage in electric vehicles – especially in trains and commercial vehicles but also in an ever-increasing number of passenger cars. With our solutions, we offer manufacturers all over the world comprehensive support for developing and testing state-of-the-art fuel cell technologies.
The various electric systems of an electric vehicle operate at different voltages. To guarantee an efficient power transfer, intelligently-controlled power electronics components are key. Our solutions accelerate the development and the validation of all relevant power electronics components. These include highly-efficient converters for the charging process (AC/DC) and in-vehicle power management converters (DC/DC).
When it comes to electric vehicles, various drive concepts such as front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, or even wheel hub motors are used, with the motor type varying from application to application. The dSPACE development environment provides flexible support for developing and testing all different types of power electronics, motors, and position sensors, from the signal level to the full power level.

The electronic high-voltage test system from dSPACE enables us to precisely emulate an electric motor and a battery at power level. This lets us perform reliable tests of power control units under real electrical conditions.
The extremely fast FPGA computing platform from dSPACE and the XSG models for electrical components meet our requirements for precise electric motor simulation.
The open dSPACE model libraries were of great importance for the project. The use of the ASM and XSG libraries allowed us to carry out measurements under laboratory conditions, which would have posed an enormous challenge on a real test bench.
