Use Case: Prototyping Functions for Driver Assistance Systems and Automated Driving (ADAS/AD)

When it comes to improving functionalities for advanced driver assistance and automated driving, manufacturers and suppliers in the automotive industry rely on dSPACE tools and tool chains.

Requirements such as a redundant, multisensory, 360° surround view, high-precision positioning, and vehicle connectivity also present challenges for tool suppliers. The dSPACE response: an end-to-end tool chain for autonomous driving from a single source. Unique rapid prototyping solutions of compact high-performance platforms such as MicroAutoBox III, or high-end modular systems such as SCALEXIO AutoBox and a tailored software environment allow for the development of complete in-vehicle multisensor applications, from perception and fusion algorithms to real-time controls.

Typically, functions for ADAS and automated driving, such as adaptive cruise control (ACC), autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane keeping assistants (LKA), and intersection assistants, complete various data processing stages. RTMaps, a prototyping tool for multisensor applications, is generally used on the MicroAutoBox Embedded PC hardware for developing perception and sensor fusion algorithms in C++, OpenCV, or Python under Linux or Microsoft® Windows®. The calculation result is then transmitted to the application and control functions on the dSPACE MicroAutoBox III. The MicroAutoBox III performs real-time processing, ensures functional safety, integrates Simulink® and AUTOSAR code, and serves as the interface to the vehicle network so that it can interact with the braking and steering ECUs, for example. The integrated software performs the data exchange between RTMaps and the Simulink model on the MicroAutoBox III.
