The ASM Turbocharger Model simulates an exhaust gas turbocharger that consists of a compressor, a turbine, and a turbocharger shaft. Turbochargers with variable turbine geometry (VTG) or wastegate can be simulated. The ASM Turbocharger Model is an alternative to the map-based turbocharger that is included in the gasoline and diesel engine models.
The ASM Turbocharger Model provides more realistic simulation results than purely map-based models. ASM Turbocharger calculates the turbine shaft speed on a physical basis, which is required by ECUs with a turbine speed sensor. Consequently, sophisticated air path control algorithms including turbocharger control strategies can be tested.
The turbine model calculates the mass flow, the output temperature, and the resulting power output according to wastegate or VTG position. The compressor model calculates the boost pressure, the power consumption and the output temperature. The compressor and turbine are connected by a shaft, and the model provides the shaft speed.
