FAQ 044: Effective Resolution of an AD Converter

Question

To measure the effective resolution of my A/D board, I have short-circuited the inputs, but detected a high fluctuation of the signal. What signal-to-noise ratio can be expected using dSPACE A/D boards and how can I determine the effective resolution of an A/D converter?
