dSPACE Release 2013-B

November 13, 2013: dSPACE Release 2013-B adds numerous new functionalities to several dSPACE tools. Here's a quick look at the most important innovations:

AutomationDesk 4.0   
Version 4.0 of the test automation tool AutomationDesk® has a user interface with ribbons grouped according to typical work phases. This makes work with AutomationDesk easier and more clearly arranged.
The Start page, the new main entry to AutomationDesk, provides direct access to projects and project documents. A Favorites view lets users set up their own collections and groups of library elements.
There are also numerous new functional features, such as convenient blocks for accessing the diagnostic memory. A new library provides remote control of ModelDesk to manage roads, driving maneuvers, traffic, etc., which is ideal for testing driver assistance systems.
The tool now uses Python 2.7, so users benefit from new language elements and can use the new modules and packages in this current version.
In addition, the IntelliSense function lets you use Python with the help of automatic code completion.     
TargetLink 3.5    
Among other new features, the latest version of dSPACE's production code generator TargetLink® supports the use of enum data types in Simulink® and Stateflow® to make models easier to read and maintain. The options for modeling function variants, with which TargetLink allows varianting at different points of time, have also been further enhanced. TargetLink's proven AUTOSAR support has also been extended. It is now compatible with AUTOSAR Version 4.1.1 and can generate AUTOSAR software component code that can be instantiated multiple times on an electronic control unit (ECU). This saves ECU resources and test effort. In addition, it is now noticeably easier to rollout TargetLink in large work groups, and process safety has been enhanced considerably. Enhancements in the areas of code efficiency, model preparation, and usability round off this TargetLink release.     
VEOS 3.1   
VEOS is a PC-based simulation platform for simulating a wide variety of models, from function models and vehicle models to virtual ECUs (V-ECUs) and ECU networks with bus communication, and so on. This can all be done in early development phases without the need for simulation hardware.
In this latest version of VEOS, numerous enhancements and extensions were implemented. VEOS 3.1 also supports MATLAB 64-bit for handling and simulating very large simulation models.
Python 2.7 in the dSPACE Tool Chain     
In response to growing demand from customers, in Release 2013-B dSPACE has switched the Python interpreter used by its software tools to the current version, Python 2.7.5. We decided to use the Python 2.7.x development series because unlike Python 3.x, it is essentially compatible with Python 2.5, the previously supported version. At the same time, dSPACE is integrating the standard Python installations and the provided Python libraries so that users can make updates and implement extensions themselves.
These changes give users the following advantages:
  • They can add/remove Python packages.
  • They can install current Python extension modules.
  • They can use language extensions.
  • They benefit from bugfixes.
  • It is compatible with current operating systems.
