University (JKU) Linz to Accelerate Vehicle Software Development Using Generative AI

Sensor data management software IVS provides innovative features based on generative AI

Paderborn/Linz, 27. March 2025.  dSPACE, a leading provider of solutions for the development of connected, autonomous, and electrically powered vehicles, has announced a collaboration with the internationally renowned Institute for Machine Learning (IML) at Johannes Kepler University to integrate generative AI technologies into the dSPACE portfolio to accelerate data-driven development.
The partnership will integrate cloud-agnostic, generative AI technologies into dSPACE solutions for data-driven development. The first implementation will be available in mid-2025 in IVS, the dSPACE sensor data management software.

IVS is an open, cloud-based software platform that allows developers to analyze, preview, and tag test-drive data that is stored in the cloud, on-premises, or in globally distributed storage architectures. The new generative-AI-based features enable automatic searches for objects and maneuvers in raw sensor data through natural language queries (prompts), thereby saving significant costs and time in the development of ADAS and AD functions. This initiative also focuses on enhancing simulation & validation pipelines by enriching with generative AI technologies. This further cements dSPACE’s position as a pioneering force in cutting-edge V&V solutions for ADAS/AD.

“The collaboration between dSPACE and the Institute for Machine Learning at JKU represents a synergistic relationship between industry and academia in artificial intelligence. When refocusing our research efforts towards industrial AI applications, we realized that dSPACE’s areas of expertise, including simulation, validation, and multimodal foundation models align seamlessly with our institute’s strengths. This partnership offers a unique opportunity to advance state-of-the-art AI research, facilitating solutions to complex, real-world challenges. As we continue to lead in the development of generative AI technologies in Europe, this cooperation ensures that JKU's innovations are seamlessly integrated into dSPACE’s industry-leading tools, resulting in substantial mutual benefits.” says Prof. Sepp Hochreiter, head of the LIT AI Lab, Linz and head of the Institute for Machine Learning at the Johannes Kepler University, Linz.

“With the collaboration between dSPACE & JKU, we have created a unique solution to enable searches of both identified and unidentified objects and driving situations in our customers’ huge data storages. This innovative approach helps our customers to find the right data from petabytes of unsorted data lakes, using generative AI technology to test and validate their autonomous driving functionalities. Our collaboration will enable engineers all over the world to increase their development efficiency with the support of generative AI technology”, says Tino Schulze, Vice President Automated Driving & Software Solutions at dSPACE.
