Vehicles driving in automated mode have to be able to cope with any situation occurring in real road traffic conditions. Simulation techniques are used in order to ensure that this ability can be validated as early as the development phase: Dr. Frank Schütte, Section Manager Engineering at dSPACE describes in an interview with ATZelectronics how dSPACE relies on a modular approach in which over-the-air procedures play a vital role.
