The KTH Formula Student team was founded in 2003 and at first designed racing vehicles with combustion engines.
Today, the team consists of approximately 40 students from the mechanical, automotive, and electrical engineering schools who have been working on electric drives since 2013.
During the 2016 season, KTH competed with its third electric vehicle, the eV13. The control center of this vehicle is a dSPACE MicroAutoBox that controls everything from the revolutions per minute to the safety system. For the eV13, the team not only enhanced the existing systems, it also improved the vehicle dynamics with a stabilizer that is controlled in real time.
In the summer of 2016, the KTH team placed seventh at Formula SAE Italy despite considerable problems with the cooling system. Unfortunately, the vehicle was damaged to such an extent that is could not compete in the most important category, the Endurance race. The team is hoping to place in the top ten in Formula Student UK at Silverstone after thoroughly reworking their vehicle.
