dSPACE and MdynamiX Intensify Their Collaboration

The collaboration of MdynamiX and dSPACE focuses on developing and testing electric steering systems.

Melbourne, January 11, 2018: MdynamiX and dSPACE have entered a cooperation that intensifies their already constructive collaboration in developing and testing electric steering systems. To this end, the renowned steering system model of Professor Peter E. Pfeffer, CEO of MdynamiX, was integrated into the dSPACE Automotive Simulation Model (ASM) tool suite. Vehicle developers now benefit from a powerful tool chain for adjusting vehicle dynamics and steering behavior. The seamless integration makes the new tool chain ideal for a continuous development process, starting with model-based design (MBD), to software-in-the-loop (SIL) simulation, up to hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation with a real ECU. 

MdynamiX Tools and Know-How for dSPACE Platforms

In dSPACE ModelDesk, identified and optimized parameters of a steering system can be imported and then be used to parameterize the ASM models together with other data. The real-time simulation, e.g., on dSPACE SCALEXIO, is then visualized in a 3-D animation in dSPACE MotionDesk.

The established tools MXsteeringdesigner and MXevaluation as well as the MdynamiX know-how are now available on dSPACE platforms. Therefore, fundamental work steps, such as the steering system characterization and parameter optimization of the steering models, can be markedly simplified. For example, MXsteeringdesigner can automatically transfer parameters of a steering system model from a dSPACE steering test bench to dSPACE ModelDesk. With MXevaluation, objective parameters can be determined from vehicle data measurements and simulations and thus used for the calibration of electronic control units or the optimization of the steering feel.  

Seamless Development Process for Steering Systems

In development projects, MdynamiX provides particularly strong support for solving complex problems in the fields of vehicle dynamics and steering adjustment. “Because the ASM simulation tool suite is also used on our test benches at Munich University of Applied Sciences, we can now also provide our services for ASM-based development projects. Especially, the white-box character of the dSPACE tools makes it easier for us to develop entirely new applications and methods,” explains Professor Peter E. Pfeffer. “We are looking forward to using these new options for complex vehicle dynamics projects.”
