New development tools for the aerospace industry
Published: February 15, 2016 |
In their MISSION (Modelling and Simulation Tools for Systems Integration on Aircraft) project, the United Technologies Research Centre (UTRC) in Ireland and several of its partners are designing new development tools for the aerospace industry. The MISSION project is part of the European Clean Sky 2 program. The aim of MISSION is to develop new, integrated modeling, simulation and optimization tools to boost model-based workflows in all phases of aircraft design.
The project seeks to combine existing work methods of the aerospace industry and check whether methods used in other industrial branches, such as automotives, are suitable for aerospace applications. In addition to dSPACE, ALES SRL from Italy, UTC Aerospace Systems from the UK, and ITI from Germany cooperate with the UTRC.
In the MISSION project, the dSPACE tool chain is used for validation and verification. This includes hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation and PC-based non-real-time simulation. dSPACE SCALEXIO is used for HIL simulation while dSPACE VEOS serves as a PC-based simulation platform.
Clean Sky 2 is an aerospace research project of the European Union. With a budget of over 4 billion euros, Clean Sky 2 promotes a number of research projects from 2014 to 2024 to lay the technological groundwork for greener aviation and to increase European competitiveness in this sector.
