Without the use of mechatronics, modern steering systems would be inconceivable because the mechatronics increases efficiency and opens up a whole new range of comfort and safety functions. To test such steering systems, the Department of Mechatronics in Mechanical Engineering and Automotive Engineering at the Technische Universität Kaiserslautern and dSPACE jointly developed an innovative, hardware-in-the-loop-based (HiL) steering system test bench. This makes it possible to bring a part of the steering system development forward into the laboratory.
