For powertrain electronics, hardware-in-the-loop simulation is essential because the electronic control units (ECUs) contain complex control algorithms with sensitive fault recognition and cannot be tested realistically without simulating their behavior in a network. In addition, any given vehicle can include numerous powertrain variants (engines, transmission types, etc.). “SPEA” is the first HIL simulation rig at Audi for the development and testing of distributed powertrain functions in real time.
