Field application Engineer

As a Field Application Engineer you are the primary technical point of contact for the customer, alongside your sales colleagues. In the business acquisition phase, you will support your colleagues in addressing technical questions in customer meetings as well as executing proof of concept tests and evaluations with or for the customer.

A natural curiosity about the requirements of our customers is an important behaviour for a competent Field Application Engineer, this natural interest and ability to listen will allow them to apply technical knowledge to provide clear advice and guidance in this high-tech environment.

You will deeply familiarize yourself with the topic of verification and validation for control systems, it is critical you know the interaction of all the products in all phases of the customer's development process.

In this role, you will work in the application area of HIL and Simulation for the testing of Electronic Control Units (ECUs) in predominantly Automotive. You will be part of a team-oriented environment, involved in developing and applying dSPACE HIL simulation technology for the most exciting and cutting-edge control domains.

 

Your responsibilities

  • Presentation of our products and technologies
  • Technical application advice
  • Development of customer-specific solutions and testing environments
  • Technical support for sales engineers
  • Regular customer visits
  • Onsite at customer projects / resident engineering support services

 

Your qualifications

  • Engineering related degree with experience in electronics and control. 
  • Knowledge in one or more of the following areas is desired:
    • Experience in electrical / electronic test equipment
    • HIL system design and/or operation
    • Control software development lifecycle
    • Control systems, electronics, sensors, actuators
    • Experience with Bus systems like CAN, LIN, FlexRay and Ethernet
    • Foundation in understanding of electrical schematics and electrical components.
  • Ability to work autonomously within assigned objectives, Critical thinking, and diagnostic skills, solve problems and drive progress. 
  • Attention to detail- It is essential the engineer can work in a methodical approach to ensure accuracy and quality is paramount.
  • Have a proactive, inquisitive personality that works well with others as a team.
  • Have high levels of self-motivation and show initiative when business opportunities present themselves.
  • Essential to have excellent communication skills. Engineer will be directly interacting and conversing with clients so need to be able to understand the problem in question and explain and summarise complex issues to people who will have varying levels of experience and technical knowledge.
  • Although Midlands focused, travel will be required on occasion.
