Homologation

Type approval phases.

  • Defining verification and validation criteria
  • Establishing procedures, conforming to all relevant standards
  • Supporting the way to process safety
  • Verifying the test coverage

Task

Using simulation and virtual testing is indispensable for the approval and homologation of E/E systems in the automotive industry. Test drives alone can no longer verify the operating points at which the systems begin to function. The same applies to the approval of automotive systems with automation level 2 and higher on the automation scale of the OICA/SAE standard J3016.

Challenge

In this context, complying with the ISO 26262 functional safety standard and the technical regulations of UNECE as well as observing the Safety of the Intended Functionality (SOTIF) is a decisive factor, particularly because the maturity levels of the development and test processes will be used future approvals. Although the UNECE regulations have not been finalized and the standardization has not been consolidated in a way that defines the procedures and their application, using simulation is mandatory in all cases. A suitable and comprehensive test strategy must satisfy both ISO 26262 and ISO/PAS 21448 (SOTIF), and make the simulation usable as a central element. For this purpose, the requirements for the developed systems must be easily testable (design for testability).

Solution

dSPACE Consulting works on customer projects that support the approval of automotive E/E systems by means of simulation, including both the classic domains such as powertrain, vehicle dynamics, and ADAS as well as predevelopment projects for AD systems.
