Using dSPACE Products from your Home Office

The pandemic has changed the working situation of many people. Home office work has increased significantly. dSPACE as your partner wants to ensure that you can use your dSPACE products flexibly in or from your home office. This page lists some important aspects of this topic for you.

Flexibility built into the dSPACE licensing technology

The options described below require Wibu CodeMeter licenses that you own.
The old WibuKey and FlexNET licensing techniques used up to and including dSPACE Release 2017-A did not provide the necessary flexibility.

Options when using floating network licenses

In general, floating network licenses offer significantly more flexibility than single user licenses.

  • dSPACE software can be installed on remotely accessed PCs in your office or on your home office PC.
  • You can access floating network licenses from your home office PC via VPN if your IT allows the access to the license server in your company.
  • Floating network licenses can also be borrowed from the license server for up to three months. A license is borrowed into a “dSPACE Borrow Containers” on the PCs harddisk, or in into a CmDongle. The borrowed license is handled as a local license and can then be used without LAN connection to the license server for the whole borrow time.
  • You can access the dSPACE Software remotely via Internet or network applications, i.e., via Citrix, Microsoft® Remote Desktop, or other terminal/device servers, unless such remote use is restricted or prohibited in the software documentation of the respective software version of the dSPACE software product.
According to the dSPACE EULA (http://www.dspace.com/go/eula), section 3.6, a floating network license is required for the use of the software product on one PC or virtual machine, by several users. In particular, remote use of a single user license by multiple users is not permitted.

Options when using single user licenses (CmDongle)

  • CmDongles can be connected to remotely accessed PCs in your office or directly to your home office PC.
  • dSPACE software can be installed on remotely accessed PCs in your office or on your home office PC.
  • You can access to the dSPACE Software remotely via Internet or network applications, i.e., via Citrix, Microsoft® Remote Desktop, or other terminal/device servers, unless such remote use is restricted or prohibited in the software documentation of the respective software version of the dSPACE software product.
However, according to the dSPACE EULA (http://www.dspace.com/go/eula), section 3.6, a floating network license is required for the use of the software product on one PC or virtual machine, by several users.
In particular, remote use of a single user license by multiple users is not permitted.

Note on RDP – Remote Desktop Protocol

Each RDP user login creates a so-called Windows RDP session. Wibu CodeMeter uses Windows sessions to assign a license to a user. Hence, for each session, a license is necessary. In case of single-user licenses, problems with products or automations may occur in certain cases. Alternatively, use TeamViewer, UltraVNC or other screen sharing tools.
