Paderborn, June 15, 2013: Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) decided to compete in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) in Colorado this Junewith theMiEV EvolutionII EV race machine equipped with the rapid prototyping system MicroAutoBox II supplied by dSPACE.
As a company that supports Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, dSPACE Japan joined the planning process in 2013, and is providing technical support for EV racing machine development by supplying the MicroAutoBox II.
The MicroAutoBox II is mounted in the vehicle as an ECU which coordinates and controls the four electric motors and brake systems in the MiEV EvolutionII. It estimates motor running and drive battery conditions using information collected from a variety of sensors and ECUs, thus optimizing control of the four electric motors and brake systems and enabling safe and stable high-speed running conditions for the MiEV EvolutionII.
“MicroAutoBox II was indispensable for the development of a car as advanced as the MiEV EvolutionII. Development time was minimal thanks to the model-based control design and simulation, and validation related to the control system in a real vehicle could be completed in about one week from the completion of the vehicle,” asserts Nobuo Momose, Mitsubishi Motors EV Component Resarch Department General Manager, in praise of dSPACE’s control system tools.

At the dSPACE Japan User Conference 2013 held on Friday June 7 at the Tokyo Conference Center in Shinagawa, driver Hiroshi Masuoka gave a spirited talk about the upcoming challenge of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb race.
