Forest R. McFarland Award recognizes individuals for their outstanding contributions toward the work of the SAE Engineering Meetings Board
Account Manager Chad Harnish
January 2012: Account Manager Chad Harnish has been named a 2012 Forest R. McFarland Award Recipient by SAE International. This award recognizes individuals for their outstanding contributions toward the work of the SAE Engineering Meetings Board (EMB) in the planning, development, and dissemination of technical information through technical meetings, conferences, and professional development programs or outstanding contributions to the EMB operations in facilitating or enhancing the interchanges of technical information.
Chad is the Vice Chair of the E/E Committee for SAE. This is the third year that he has worked on the committee and his first year as a co-leader.
In addition to the technical session on hardware in-the-loop, CV407, which Chad single-handedly pulled together and has been responsible for all aspects of its operation, he played a pivotal role in the conception and launch of CV403, a panel discussion on electro-hydraulics technologies.
According to E/E Committee Chairman Wensi Jin of The Mathworks, Chad not only helped shape the panel from its early stage, but he nominated two important panelists (out of a total of five slots). He used his wide range of industry contacts to his advantage, and applied negotiation skills to secure the commitment of these volunteers. The result is a larger and richer community of participants for the COMVEC technical program. Lastly, Harnish stepped in whenever needed to support and sustain the E/E committee.
"Although, on paper, he is the Vice Chair and I am the Chair, in reality, there is no difference in our level of involvement and our role within the committee," said Jin. "We worked together as a team, and Mr. Harnish, for his part, is both a great leader and team player."
