Congratulations to Honda for Earning FAA Certification!

On Dec. 9, 2015, Honda Aircraft Co. was granted certification by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and given the green light to sell its HondaJet to the public.

The company has more than 100 orders for the six-passenger business jet in place. The first HondaJet is scheduled for delivery by early 2016.

dSPACE congratulates Honda Aircraft on earning FAA certification and becoming an official aviation manufacturer!

Following are some of the major milestones Honda Aircraft successfully accomplished on its journey to becoming FAA certified:

  • 2003:  First flight of the proof-of-concept HondaJet
  • 2005:  World debut of the HondaJet at EAA AirVenture, Oshkosh
  • 2010:  Maiden flight of the first FAA-conforming HondaJet
  • 2012:  Start of HondaJet production
  • 2013:  FAA Type Inspection Authorization for the HondaJet, clearing the way for FAA pilots to begin on-board testing
  • 2014:  Initial flight of the first production HondaJet
  • 2015:  FAA Certification earned

Interface testing for avionics and the full authority digital engine control (FADEC) system, which controls all aspects of aircraft engine performance, was accomplished using a new HIL interconnection architecture developed by dSPACE. The interconnection architecture lets Honda Aircraft fully test its interfaces for avionics and either through closed-loop simulation or point-to-point breakout and analysis.
