December 18, 2012: EcoCAR 2 will host its Year Two Winter Workshop from January 23-27, 2013 at Freescale’s facilities in Austin, Texas, co-sponsored by Freescale and dSPACE Inc.

Freescale and dSPACE Bring EcoCAR to the Live Music Capital of the World

December 6, 2012: Back by popular demand, the Year Two Winter Workshop will celebrate its Saturday night at Maggie Mae’s on Sixth Street – the heart of the “Live Music Capital of the World,” Austin, TX!

So get ready to rock out to the 80s and enjoy the last night of the Year Two Winter Workshop, co-sponsored by Freescale and dSPACE, Inc. on Saturday, January 26, 2013!

Plugging into the Chevy Malibu’s Eco Future

September 26, 2012: Read the article on how Embry-Riddle University’s EcoEagles are optimizing their 2013 Chevy Malibu for the EcoCAR 2 competition.

Sponsor Success Thursdays: OSU and dSPACE

August 30, 2012: The Ohio State University EcoCAR 2 team is collaborating with dSPACE, Inc. to help streamline the process for designing and integrating the control algorithms they are creating for their engine controller, transmission controller and vehicle supervisory controller in their vehicle. These team-programmed controllers will work together to allow the Ohio State Parallel-Series Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) to operate as efficiently as possible in charge depleting mode, charge sustaining series mode and charge sustaining parallel mode.

Purdue Finds Humor in the Battle to Meet Deadlines

August 28, 2012: A humorous account of meeting deadlines by the Purdue EcoMakers’ Controls lead, Ashish Vora.

Sponsor Success Thursdays: University of Washington

August 23, 2012: One of the primary Winter Workshop presentations was a demonstration of our team’s progress on control system and HIL development. The presentation had several components, including a dynamic presentation of the dSPACE HIL running our stock Malibu vehicle model in real time.

IT Infrastructure: The Workhorses of the Waterloo Team

August 20, 2012: When students first step into the University of Waterloo Alternative Fuels Team (UWAFT) office, they are often surprised by the number of computers and laptops. Typically the team has five desktops, eight monitors, and three laptops churning on anything from finite element analysis (FEA), to powertrain models.

Sponsor Success Thursdays: dSPACE Collaboration Is Instrumental in UVic’s Progress

August 9, 2012: In Year One teams were responsible for using math-based design tools to simulate their vehicles before actually conducting major changes to the vehicle powertrain. dSPACE technology is important for UVic because it helps avoid many of the obstacles and challenges that inevitably arise when building a car. Using dSPACE, the team can deal with the problems virtually rather than painstaking trial and error.

The University of Victoria Explores Advanced Simulation Capabilities

August 02, 2012: The University of Victoria (UVic) team is excited about its new advanced dSPACE-founded vehicle dynamics model. UVic has been using dSPACE hardware and software through the first year of EcoCAR 2 for purposes of modeling, simulation and prototype development.

Sponsor Success Thursdays: dSPACE Goes Above and Beyond to Support CSU

July 19, 2012: When you think of a big company with global reach, you don’t always imagine excellent customer service. But dSPACE, a platinum-level sponsor and supporter of the EcoCAR2 competition isn’t like other large companies. The Colorado State University Vehicle Innovation Team (CSU VIT) got to experience firsthand just how different dSPACE is. dSPACE was kind enough to donate its revolutionary Hardware-In-the-Loop technology to all fifteen teams participating in the EcoCAR 2 competition.

dSPACE Gives Real-Time Boost to EcoCAR 2 Automotive Engineers of the Future

July 05, 2012: In support of the three-year collegiate student engineering competition, dSPACE donated hardware-in-the-loop simulators, rapid prototyping systems and software to 15 universities participating in EcoCAR 2.

dSPACE Honors Ohio State University – First Place Embedded Success Award Recipient

May 24, 2012: Three universities participating in the EcoCAR 2 competition were recognized by dSPACE for their outstanding achievements in demonstrating the most effective use of dSPACE HIL equipment to simulate their vehicle architectures and develop their control strategies.

Hooray for Hollywood! Hooray for Mississippi State University!

May 23, 2012: After six days of intense judging, that included student presentations, demonstrations and technical reports, MSU came out on top with its engineering strategy to re-design a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, donated by General Motors, into a series-parallel plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. Second place honors went to The Ohio State University, and the University of Waterloo took third place overall.

dSPACE Inc. Supports University of Victoria EcoCAR 2 Team with Techie Prowess

April 27, 2012: The University of Victoria is the only team in Western Canada, and one of fifteen in North America, to compete in EcoCAR 2: Plugging In To The Future. dSPACE Inc. provided hardware and software for developing and testing embedded control systems and supported the team during the process.

ERAU EcoEagles Collaborate with dSPACE, Inc.

April 26, 2012: The Embry-Riddle EcoEagles EcoCAR 2 team is participating in a General Motors and Department of Energy collegiate advanced vehicle technology engineering competition. dSPACE Inc. is providing the young engineers with hardware-in-the-loop hardware and the software for developing and testing their control algorithms. A dSPACE engineer is also giving them practical tips and application know-how.

dSPACE Helps UW Through Winter Workshop Difficulties

March 09, 2012: Failures can yield as much valuable insight as successes, and oftentimes much more. Moreover, EcoCAR 2 failures can yield help from colleagues and competitors alike. Such was the case with the University of Washington EcoCAR 2 team’s Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) demonstration at the Winter Workshop in Austin. Controls lead Trevor Crain explains the challenges UW had setting up its dSPACE HIL Simulator to meet the demonstration requirements.
