dSPACE offers a wide range of hardware-in-the-loop simulators, simulator-specific hardware and related software for ECU testing.

The SCALEXIO system has a new hardware and software architecture to cover the future challenges of hardware-in-the-loop test systems. All the hardware is standardized and can be reused in all variations of SCALEXIO systems.

dSPACE Simulator Mid-Size

dSPACE Simulator Mid-Size is a ready-to-use, standard HIL simulator for testing automotive ECUs systematically and automatically. The simulation model runs on the processor hardware (single-processor or multiprocessor systems). dSPACE Simulator Mid-Size generates and measures I/O signals via the integrated dSPACE I/O boards. The function range is complemented by load and failure simulation.

dSPACE Simulator Full-Size

dSPACE Simulator Full-Size is mounted in a 19” cabinet whose height depends on your requirements. The dSPACE processor boards and I/O boards are mounted in a standard PX20 Expansion Box. The PX20 Expansion Box provides 20 slots for dSPACE boards. An additional Expansion Box can be integrated on request.

Implementing Mechatronic Test Benches

If in some HIL test cases, it is not possible to access the ECU only via its electronic interfaces, dSPACE offers services for highly dynamic test benches for mechatronic components and systems.

Electric Drive Technology

dSPACE provides a wide range of test systems for developing and testing ECUs for electric drives. Depending on the testing purpose and the project conditions, you can access the ECU at different levels, such as signal, electric power, and mechanical level.

With more than 20 years of experience in HIL simulation, dSPACE has a wide range of knowledge regarding specific HIL topics.

Electrical Failure Simulation
With electrical failure simulation in a HIL environment, realistic electrical errors can be inserted in the device under test under repeatable conditions. The components of the dSPACE Failure Insertion Unit (FIU) are flexible enough to allow tests which are difficult to conduct under real-world conditions, such as open wire during braking.
Electrical failure simulation with FIUs can be performed with all dSPACE simulator systems. The following failure conditions can be used:
  • Open circuit
  • Short circuit to ground
  • Short circuit to battery voltage or between ECU pins
  • Bouncing for all failures
Electrical failure simulation on the HIL simulator is usually performed on all channel types: actuator, sensor and bus channels. With actuator channels, you can specify whether to reject the load when switching to the failure potential to avoid an open circuit state. Because the sensor signals are simulated, a large proportion of failures can be simulated by the model itself. An electrical FIU is used if the ECU has to capture and evaluate currents, or to simulate an open circuit.

Test Systems

From the first function tests with PC-based simulation, to HIL simulation, up to mechatronic test benches, dSPACE provides single-source test solutions that include a seamless tool chain, engineering, and support.

Bus Simulation

dSPACE offers a comprehensive tool chain for bus simulation in hardware-in-the-loop applications.

Simulation Models

The dSPACE simulation models provide comprehensive simulation solutions for four application areas: combustion engines, electric components, vehicle dynamics, and traffic environment.

dSPACE systems are easy to get up and running – however, if a project is more complex, if individual solutions are needed or if there is high time pressure, you can trust dSPACE's fast, competent and reliable engineering and consulting services.
