Interface Solution for AFDX®

Interface to the AFDX avionics data bus

  • Connects a modular dSPACE real-time system to an AFDX network
  • For hardware-in-the-loop simulation and rapid control prototyping
  • Supports major avionic network protocols
  • Real-Time Interface Blockset based on Simulink S-functions

Application Areas
The AFDX interface (AFDX® is a registered trademark of AIRBUS) connects a modular dSPACE real-time system to an AFDX network. Its application areas are hardware-in-the-loop simulation and rapid control prototyping in avionic projects, which are increasingly being used for testing and developing airplanes. The DS4504 PMC Carrier Board is equipped with an AIM AMC-FDX-2 PCM module. It works as an AFDX end system connecting the modular dSPACE system to an AFDX network.

Key Benefits
The AFDX Solution enables you to interface your AFDX network directly to the real-time application running on the dSPACE processor board. It supports the DS1005 PPC Board or DS1006 Processor Board and is also multiprocessor-capable. An exact start time can be defined for IRIG (Inter-Range Instrumentation Group) timestamps of sent messages, or the embedded clock’s time can be taken from the DS4504’s ETX.

Hardware and Software
The dSPACE AFDX Solution is based on the DS4504 PMC Carrier Board, which acts as a carrier for an ETX (Embedded Technology eXtended) module and a PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC). Data exchange between the ETX and the dSPACE processor board runs via the PHS++ (peripheral high speed) bus and a 2-MByte dual-port memory (DPMEM). A Compact Flash (CF) card contains the QNX run-time operating system and the ETX application. The I/O connection to the Simulink® model is configured graphically by means of the DS4504 AFDX Basic Blockset, using S-functions.
