FlexRay is a new communication protocol that can handle the requirements for future in-vehicle networks of electronic control units. Its specific features ensure both a broad transmission bandwidth and reliable communication. Creating in-vehicle systems based on it presents new challenges to development methods and tools. For this reason, tools that provide answers to these challenges were already being developed while the FlexRay protocol was still being defined. Thus, the time-triggered bus system can be integrated into the real-time simulation of control systems, both for rapid control prototyping and for hardware-in-the-loop simulation.
