dSPACE’s TargetLink is a development environment based on MATLAB®/Simulink®/Stateflow® that enables highly efficient C code generation for microcontrollers in electronic control units. However, TargetLink is not only a C code generator. It also provides powerful simulation capabilities to analyze fixed-point quantization and overflow effects, and to validate controller designs on target microcontrollers. Thus, TargetLink plays an important role in a modern model-based development tool chain in which all the algorithm knowledge and implementation options are entered in a graphical simulation model.

The new version of the production code generator, TargetLink 2.0, has some new features that allow a slightly different style of modeling compared to the former versions. Support for multirate systems, the new dSPACE Data Dictionary, and the worst-case autoscaling tool offer a new way of modeling and new ways of integrating TargetLink into a development process, which are discussed in this paper.
