Interest in automotive Ethernet has grown considerably over the years because of its high bandwidth, flexible layer model and inexpensive implementations. One indication of this is the size of the OPEN Alliance Special Interest Group (SIG) [www.opensig.org], which aims to promote the introduction of Ethernet-based networks with unshielded one-pair cables.
